Day 3: The Calendar

The Calendar of the world of The Enigma Drift, like many things, is based off The Drift itself. The Basic concept is that the days count up from the last occurrence of The Drift. When The Drift finishes and all of the continents have their new place in the enigma, the current calendar comes to an end where it is. At very center of the enigma, there is an obelisk known as The Fulcrum. The first being to make it to The Fulcrum and scale to its peak is said to be able to speak to the whole world. With this privilege, they alone can name The Drift that just occurred, therein naming the new calendar. The being who names the calendar earns the title of First Herald for the remainder of the drift cycle. It is a great honor for their entire community. Many times, Rulers will have champions ready to race to The Fulcrum on their behalf, naming The Drift after whatever they want. Other times, beings acting of their own accord will make it first. Regardless, whatever The Herald declares is heard by the entire world.

The format is as follows:
The (Days since last drift) day of the Drift of (Name given by The Herald)
or
The 284th day of The Drift of Hugo the VII (Heralded by the Champion of King Hugo the VII)
or
The 62nd day of The Drift of The Quiet Calm (Heralded by the monk Jerloon Garden)

The time between the end of the drift and the announcement by The Herald is known as the liminal period. Depending on the distance of certain continents to The Fulcrum, the liminal period can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

Because each continent has their own localized climates and environments, They also have local calendars that are used for things like timing harvests, but these are all secondary to The Calendar of the First Herald.
