I spent a long time trying to think of a fun and different way to do currency in the world. After exploring a bunch of frankly ridiculous ideas, I came to the realization that some things don’t need to be fun and different. I think that a standard gold, silver, and copper piece system with a 1/10/100 split is something that has merit in being easy to understand. Where I think you can have fun with it is what is printed on the individual pieces.
In the world of The Enigma Drift, the exclusive right to mint new coins belongs to whichever country is the most centrally located. After the drift occurs, and The First Herald ushers in the new era, scholars of continents everywhere work on measuring the distances of their new placements. After it is found which continent is the most centrally located, magical die-cast molds are transferred from the previous centrally located continent to the new one.
The magical die-cast molds make it so the size and metal purity of the coins remain consistent through the different drift cycles. They also magically inscribe the name of The Drift given by The Herald onto the coin. The one change the continent leadership can make is the image of the person on the coin.
